Guardians Prospect Profile: Cooper Ingle
Cooper Ingle, C, 24, Triple-A
Ingle has carved out a reputation as one of the minors’ most disciplined hitters. Across three minor-league seasons, he’s posted more walks (168) than strikeouts (149). That has led to an elite .407 OBP. He rarely chases with a nearly even 16.9% walk and 16.7% strikeout rate and an impressive 83.7% contact rate, but he can be slightly passive. 2025 saw Ingle post a 139 wRC+ and 10 homers over 510 plate appearances. Behind the plate, Ingle’s athleticism and quick exchange help compensate for a below-average arm. However, his ability to control the running game remains a concern. He only threw out 19% of runners last season, which could limit him to a backup long-term if he doesn't improve. After earning Double-A All-Star honors and a promotion to Triple-A, Ingle stumbled against upper-level pitching, managing just a .207/.383/.329 line. He’s expected to open 2026 back in Columbus, and with continued development, he could make his MLB debut later this season. How much run he gets will hinge on his own bat and the progress of Bo Naylor.
What do you think? Does Ingle’s bat and on-base skills give him a real shot at sticking as a big-league catcher, or will his arm ultimately limit his ceiling? Let me know your take in the comments.

Good summary. It's not uncommon for a good performing A or AA player to see hitting falter in AAA. It often takes a half year to start climbing again.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is the Guardians are hurt greatly at bat with Bo Naylor and DEAD LAST in MLB catchers BA Austing Hedges. It would be better for the franchise to install Ingle as the catcher and let his natural progression at the plate take its course. He will become a decent hitting catcher in time. As to his arm, upgrade our coaching system, teach quicker releases, etc.
Bottom line--Hedges and Naylor are so bad, Ingle would be an upgrade this year and an even bigger upgrade in 2027-28 as his hitting takes it progression course.
Appreciate your thoughts! I'm hoping Naylor improves this year. He showed signs in September. We'll see if that carries over. Hope Ingle continues to develop, especially when it comes to the run game. I believe in the bat. Go Guardians!
